Gardening retreat in Barbados
Join us for a six day retreat talking exotic plants, herbs and spices!
Hello! It’s Katie here, with a REALLY exciting announcement that I’ve been waiting to share with you all.
Following the launch of my new book ‘Plants, Beds & Borders’ this spring, and the airing of season six of ITV’s Love Your Garden, I’m thrilled to let you know I’m going to be leading a fantastic six-day gardening retreat in the sunny Caribbean, and I’d love for you to join me! Between the 21st and 26th of this October, I’ll be jetting off the the luxurious tropical hideaway Sugar Cane Club Hotel & Spa, nestled in a tranquil gully on the beautiful island of Barbados. This is an award-winning boutique-style hotel surrounded by stunning gardens, and home to amazing wildlife like monkeys and parakeets. I couldn’t be more excited!
If you’ve kept up with my work over the years, you’ll know that I love to share the gardening tips and tricks I’ve learnt over my years running my landscape gardening business, Queen of Spades. This is a great chance to pick up some pointers for creating your own tropical retreat at home – whilst relaxing in the real deal on an island paradise!
Set against a backdrop of the Sugar Cane Club’s lush grounds, guests will have the opportunity to join me for six days of mixed morning classes, talks and guided walks exploring planting, bedding and the tropical fauna that surrounds the hotel. We’ll have access to the hotel’s kitchen garden, and you’ll learn how to grow the Caribbean herbs and plants that feature in the menus at Sandy’s Chattel Bar and La Salsa Restaurant on-site. You’ll also join myself and the hotel’s head gardener, Rodney Phillips, on a guided hike to discover the larger tropical plants native to Barbados that thrive in the unique natural gully surrounding the hotel.
Over a final celebration dinner, I’ll demonstrate how to design your own exotic garden at home as we enjoy the produce from the hotel’s fantastic kitchens. If you’re after a break with your partner, a group of friends, or even on your own that’s more than a splash of winter sun, the Sugar Cane Club is waiting to welcome you. When we’re not talking gardens, there’s a newly-refurbished restaurant, an award-winning spa, an art gallery and beautiful accommodation that will see you leaving relaxed and refreshed. I’d love to see you there!
The gardening tutorials and dinner talk are complimentary for guests staying at Sugar Cane Club Hotel & Spa.
